Preparing for a sale and letting go of your house can be a difficult process
Here are some tips about preparing yourself to sell your house including how to deal with giving up your home and close that chapter. Moving can be difficult, especially if it is your first house, however you can take steps to motivate yourself to let go. There are many reaons why you are leaving, but now you have to accept the fact that you are leaving your old house for bigger and better things. Here are some tips on how to prepare your house and yourself yourself for a move to greener pastures.
The first thing that will help you out is to mentally disassociate yourself with the house. There comes to a point in a homeowners life when they have to tell themselves that they no longer own a home. Once you have decided to let it go, you need to be able to say goodbye. You can imagine handing over the keys or leaving your house and shutting the door for the last time. Imagine whatever it takes to get you to face the fact of your decision.
Second thing that would be best to do is to take down everything personal. Take all those pictures off the walls and remove items full of memories as well as other family heirlooms. Pack away everything that makes the house your home. This step is very important. You want the people who come to see your house to picture themselves in the house, not your family. They need to imagine all of the things that they could do to make it a their own home, not look at a home. Painting your house is a crucial step in setting the stage for a fresh impression in peoples minds.
You also need to sort and discard all of your stuff you’ve let accumulate or sit around. You’ll need to go through all of it eventually, and getting started can be difficult for some people. Get rid of the junk and pack up all the things that need to leave the home. Put the kick-knacks in boxes, wrap them up in newspaper, label them and get them good to go. This is a good cathartic step, cleaning helps people to let go. They feel better about a sell when the cleaning starts. Once you have everything in boxes, packed and ready to move the process of letting go becomes a lot easier, no matter how many memories that surround the house. Even if you just decided to move you it’s best to start packing everything that you don’t need, it helps you become prepared for the big move when that time comes.
While you are cleaning this is a great time to start organizing. It’s very helpful to have things stacked neatly and you can even alphabetize can goods. Anything that takes the focus off of your presence in the home and places it on the appearance of the home is the goal to organizing. You want the snoopy visitors to think that you were an amazing homemaker and the house has been extremely well taken care of.
You may also want to rent a storage unit. If you can remove some of your furniture and place them in storage you will feel like your house is less of your home. Ultimately it will also make the moving process a lot easier because by the time that you leave, you’re already half moved and you won’t feel like your house is yours. Also, you need to get rid of the items you’ve associated with the your great memories. If you have a chair that you always would relax in, you will find it easier to let go of your house if you take that chair away. You won’t feel comfortable in the home anymore and you’ll be ready to move.
