Common painting questions - Paint
Should I buy the paint?
After colours and sheens have been decided upon we assume responsibility to purchase & transport the paint. Occassionally our customers wish to buy their own paint and that is okay with us but we ask that they buy a reputable brand (Benjamin Moore or Para for instance) and do not change colours without consulting us first.
A large part of our responsibility as a painting contractor is product knowledge. Understanding the strengths and limitations of a wide variety of products allows us to best match your projects needs.
For example, certain strong and saturated colours are best bought in specific brands saving hours of labour and extra costs. By leaving the paint purchasing up to us you're utilizing our extensive product knowledge which saves you money and produces great results.Go to painting questions index
What do flat, eggshell and semi-gloss mean?
Paint comes in a variety of finish gloss levels also referred to as sheen. The material they use to make a paint glossly is dense and glassy so higher gloss means the paint is more durable and resistant to damage. As well, gloss surfaces do not trap dirt so they get less dirty and clean easier. It is standard to paint kitchens and bathrooms in a higher gloss paint such as satin or pearl.Go to painting questions index

Common painting questions - Process
What do I have to do to get ready for the painters?
While painting interiors, we expect to take care of everything ourselves. We move all of the furniture into the middle of the room, remove pictures, wallplates and take down all window coverings. Furniture and large items are carefully covered and all floors are protected with drop cloths during painting.
The only items we ask the customer to move are small delicate knick-knack type items. When we're finished painting we return all the furniture and large items to their places, re-hang pictures, replace wallplates and window coverings.Go to painting questions index
Does someone need to be at my home when you are painting?
No, as long as we have a key or arrangements to securely leave your property you're not required to have someone there while we are painting. However, if you would prefer to be at home arrangements are made to accomodate your schedule.Go to painting questions index
Why does estimate price vary so much between painting contractors?
In Toronto there are a lot of good painting contractors to choose from and occasionally you'll see that the established companies are fairly similar in price. Sometimes you may get an estimate that is a lot lower than others and other times you'll get one that is a lot higher.
There are a lot of variables that go into a companies estimate: Does the contractor intend on doing the proper surface preparation? Is the price of paint included? Are the painters skilled and receiving a proper wage? Does the contractor carry the proper insurance? These are some of the larger factors that can fluctuate estimate costs and you should ask these questions of any painter if you are curious.
At Painter for Hire, our professional Toronto painters always perform adequate preparation, receive a generous wage, and carry full insurance to protect your interests as well as our own. We deliver peace of mind and security along with a fantastic paintjob and customer service experience.
